Today was a busy busy busy day. Around 9:30AM, Linh and I
walked to the Memorial Stadium to help VSA with the concession stand. I was
expecting some sort of set-up of tables and an umbrella outside, but it was
actually a legitimate concession stand that you see at places like movie
theaters and Costco. I was definitely intimidated, especially since I was one
of the cashiers and we were told to try to do the math in my head as often as
possible because it would be faster than using the cash register.
When the rush started, it didn’t end until five hours later.
Even though I slipped up a few times in the beginning, I got back into the
groove of things and it wasn’t too different from working the two-hour rush at
Teriyaki House. Everyone was helpful and efficient (at least from where I was
standing) and I actually had a lot of fun. At the end of the day, Jamesuel gave
each of us $60, which was a very pleasant surprise.
I was so tired afterwards that I went straight to bed and
napped for 3 hours. When I woke up, I went to search for Rebecca’s (VSA’s
Retention Chair) apartment, which is where Cabinet’s Kickback Party was taking
place. I got lost. For the record, the darkness made it hard to see the street
signs. Eventually, with Rebecca’s instructions, I got to the apartment. About
half of Cabinet came to the party, but we didn’t do much before 2/3s left to
sleep/study/work. Most people were probably tired from working Concessions
earlier, and there didn’t seem to be a set plan for the party, so it’s not too
surprising. However, when there was only me, Rebecca, Jennifer, André
(who is also on CORE), and Min Thy (Rebecca’s intern and the cutest person I’ve
ever met) left in the apartment, we decided to take a spontaneous trip to
In-N-Out a little past midnight. (I guess that means this part should go on Day
44 but whatever.)
I don’t do well in larger groups, so this was the best
outcome for me. More might be merrier, but less is certainly more intimate.
